Hilos y Echos

Conceptualized by James Clements, Sam Hood Adrain and Emily Ripley

Hilos y Echos was created by What Will the Neighbors Say? As part of the exhibit “Quinceañera: Dress and Memory in Latine Culture” at the Godwin-Ternbach Museum.

It is an interactive soundscape designed to highlight the real stories of folks from various backgrounds who interacted with the Quinceañera tradition in their lives. In collaboration with Creative Director Melannie Vásquez Lara, The Neighbors conducted six interviews, which were then compiled into the sound world on display in the exhibit. Using motion activation as visitors move through the gallery, the soundscapes created for this project explore themes of private life, family and community, fiesta and tradition and the dress itself.

Audio recordings from this event can be heard here!
