Company History

What Will The Neighbors Say? was founded in 2016 by Sam Hood Adrain, James Clements, Jorge Morales Picó, and Ana Cristina Schuler, who met while studying Drama at the Experimental Theatre Wing at NYU: Tisch. The WWTNS? team have already collaborated on two productions that premiered in 2016. The company is based between New York, Glasgow, and Toronto.

Our first collaboration was Hood Adrain’s Sources of Light Other Than the Sun, which  debuted in New York in August 2016 as part of the Thespis Festival at the Hudson Guild Theatre. Inspired by the events of World War One, Sources... is an unnerving and unrelenting examination of life in the trenches of the Western Front. Examining the physical, emotional, and life altering traumas that soldiers experienced during the Great War, it attempts to capture what life was for these men. Taking place in near-total darkness, its character’s lives are brought to light.

Continuing this theme of historical, politically focused exploration, the company then premiered In Her Own Words: The Diana Tapes, written by Clements, at theSpace @ Niddry Street as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. “The Diana Tapes” is a thriller telling the true story of the secret tapes Diana, Princess of Wales recorded for Andrew Morton's 1992 biography - the show aims to tell the story behind the Princess' extraordinary decision and give a voice to a woman so often defined by images.  It received extensive media coverage, strong reviews, and was shortlisted for the prestigious Holden Street Theatre Award. Inspired by these endeavors, WWTNS? was formed.
